13 songs at a a run time of 17 minutes and 59 seconds....you know what you're in for.
According to the band, Scalp formed after the boys put together a Halloween band for fun in 2018. They discovered a chemistry with one and other and formed this grindcore outfit as a result. Signed to Closed Casket, the band have just released one of the most exciting and visceral albums in this genre this year. 4 of the tracks come in at under 1 minute in length with the only track breaching the 3 minute mark being the closer, 'Bottomless'. The only reason this track is as long as it is is because it's the only track that's not being played at break neck speed! 'Bottomless' is essentially one long, slowed down breakdown mosh track that's a great way to close out the album and let you cool down after the sweat dripping down your face from the previous 12 tracks starts to dissapate. The album is bookended with slower tracks as the opener 'LTARMLAC' is more of a doom laiden documentation of the affects of a bad trip where single notes ring out as a soundtrack to this tale. All the other tracks sandwhiched in between are bilstering. My personal favorites being 'Loather' and 'Conspiracy'. Now, you'd be wrong if you didn't compare the production on this album to that of a Nails release, but these guys have managed to keep it refreshing and exciting. To top it all off aswell, the artwork is incredible, the videos are brutal and the name of this album is top notch. Check it out! Rating: 4/5
