Are you looking for an abrasive album packed full of tormented visceral screams and abrasive hardcore riffs to go along with it? Boston newbies Fifty-Fifty Clown have got you covered. I found it difficult to compare these guys to anyone else....the closest I got was imagining if Converge had a baby with Kittie and Napalm Death. The rapidly changing tempos and rhythms make it challenging to predict what's going to hit next (in the best way). The opening track 'Engine' for example showcases these fast changing rhythms and combines it with a mixture of beatdown sections, spoken word build ups, Fleshwater-esque shoegazy vocals and also mathcore tinged craziness. The album doesn't let up either. It's 10 tracks of raccous, aggressive energy and proves that this is a band you need to keep an eye on. From what I can see, there were no singles released in the build up to this album, it was just slammed down as a statement of intent, demanding your attention. This is a no hold barred, painful listen that presents a cathartic release for Lina on vocals. Highly recommend. Rating 4.5/5
